‘Abstracted’  2024, By Tranashea Hyman Winner Tension Graduate Prize 2024

Tension Graduate Prize 2024

This year Central St Martins held an open call for entries, the final winners were chosen from a shortlist of 20 artists by Tension Director Ken Turner and Matt Hale of Art Monthly.

The prize is a two week show at Tension in August 2024.  It wasn’t an easy decision as the art work was of such a high standard. Congratulations to the winners and everyone that applied, a really fantastic graduation show. We look forward to seeing their work installed at Tension later this summer.

Laura Madeley

Laura is a multidisciplinary artist working in printmaking, mixed-media, writing, and sculpture. Her work navigates connections between art and science, finding a visual language to explore interests derived from clinical work and research in neuropsychology. Processes of episodic, procedural and emotional memory emerge as themes, highlighting discontinuities between language and experience. Printmaking offers possibilities to experiment with textures, layers and surfaces. Approaches to mark-making blend haptic and digital, textural and graphic, exploring distinctions between text, typography and emotional narrative.

Laura graduated from MA Art And Science

Tranashea Hyman

Tranashea Hyman is a multidisciplinary artist from Charlotte, NC, USA. She is currently practising in London exploring the themes of motherhood, interiority, domesticity, blackness, ecology, and the Anthropocene. Hyman has a bachelor’s degree in Visual Media Studies from Duke University (USA). Her practise combines her love of art making with a deep engagement with critical theory.

Tranashea graduated from MA Fine Art
