Drawing On Experience
14th – 30th April 2022
‘Drawing is vision on paper’ Andrew Loomis
‘Art grows out of grief and joy, but mainly grief. It is born of people’s lives’ Edvard Munch
Drawing has always fascinated Jackie, she has drawn for over 60 years, mostly horses, white horses in particular, more recently using her drawings to make visible personal and cultural trauma. Drawing for her is a way of life, the exploration of which she likens to learning a new language, an exciting way to communicate thoughts and visions to others. She describes herself as an expressionist, seeking through her drawings to express the inner un-seen world of emotion, which co-exists with the external. Her drawings are unfinished and uncluttered, somewhat careless, some demonstrating a clear contrast between finished and unfinished areas.
The drawings in this exhibition were made while suffering from severe grief induced anxiety and depression.
This exhibition is dedicated to her life partner Phil and her heart horse Obe, both sadly no longer with us. Obe the white horse was her muse.

We are an artist run gallery dedicated to showcasing the work and raising the profiles of emerging and mid career local, national and international artists. We show a mixture of contemporary & experimental art that questions what art is and what art could be.
